The Best Ways To Kill Weeds (But Not Clover) From Your Lawn

If you have clover in your lawn that you don’t ant to kill…or maybe you maintain a fully clover lawn that is starting to get weed pressure than the best herbicide to use to not kill off your desirable clover is 2,4DB.

This is an herbicide that is somewhat expensive and it can be purchased from specialty retails under a few different labels but the main problem with it is that it comes in very large jugs which may be way too much product for some lawn owners and more importantly it is not available for sale in a lot of states.

If you live in a state where it’s sale is restricted then you simply can’t buy it and use it.

For that reason the best alternative is the use the more common household herbicide 2,4D which is frequently mixed into 3-way and 4-way herbicides all the time.

The trick to using regular 2,4D however is to use it all by itself, not mixed with any other herbicides and to use it only for spot-treatment application at low application rates.

Using at max rate is likely to damage, stunt, or thin your desirable clover patch to the point that you will have to wait a few months for things to thicken back out again.

2,4DB 200 Herbicide can be purchased here as well as a few other online specialty retailers. You are unlikely to find it locally although your mileage may vary.

If you can’t get access to 2,4DB due to state restrictions I successfully used the Southern Ag 2,4D in the following video where I tried to kill a variety of general lawn weeds without killing off the California Burclover in my lawn.

In the video I see plenty of young Burclover in the lawn a full 30-days after application.
